The <strong>038<\/strong> and its <strong>MS380<\/strong> successor are mid-professional saws built for demanding work, where reliable <strong>chain lubrication<\/strong> is critical to protecting the <strong>guide bar<\/strong> and <strong>cutting chain<\/strong> under sustained load. The <strong>oil pump<\/strong> draws from the <strong>oil tank<\/strong> and delivers a metered flow of <strong>bar and chain oil<\/strong> to the <strong>guide bar<\/strong> groove via the <strong>crankshaft<\/strong>-driven rotor. A worn, cracked or seized <strong>pump body<\/strong> cuts off <strong>oil delivery<\/strong> entirely the <strong>bar rails<\/strong> overheat, <strong>drive link<\/strong> friction increases rapidly and the <strong>sprocket nose<\/strong> deteriorates. This is a model-specific pump profile, different from the pumps used on lighter Stihl consumer saws.
