These sit at the joint between the <strong>crankcase<\/strong> and <strong>cylinder<\/strong>, keeping the crank chamber airtight so the two-stroke engine can pull in and compress its fuel-air charge correctly. With use and heat, this seal will eventually <strong>harden, thin out or compress<\/strong>, and once it can no longer do its job, air starts leaking into the crank chamber where it shouldn't. That kind of leak tends to show up as a <strong>rough or hunting idle<\/strong>, hesitation when you open the throttle, or the saw simply becoming harder to <strong>start<\/strong>. When you're splitting the <strong>crankcase<\/strong> or lifting off the <strong>cylinder<\/strong> for any reason, putting in fresh gaskets here is what keeps that seal tight afterwards.<\/p>\n<p
